The First Step Toward a Fire-Ready Property

In Western Montana, protecting your home is a community effort. Missoula Fire Ready provides free wildfire risk assessments for eligible properties. An assessment is often the first step toward qualifying for Firewise or defensible-space subsidy programs, when funding is available.

Step 1

Request Your Official Assessment

To be eligible for cost-share programs, you must have an official “diagnosis” of your property’s current risk level. These requests are handled directly through state and local agencies.
Step 2

Review Your Mitigation Plan

Once your assessment is complete, you will receive a report detailing the specific hazards on your land, from ladder fuels in your timber to brush density near your home.

Step 3

Professional Implementation

This is where Missoula Defensible Space steps in. We use your official assessment as a tactical map to perform the specialized labor required to meet Firewise standards. While we are a private contractor, our work is specifically designed to align with the standards necessary for reimbursement and insurance compliance.
